Laws and Regulations

Controlled Substance Act (CSA)

LSD is a Schedule I controlled substance, meaning that it has been deemed to have a high abuse potential, a lack of accepted safe use when taken under medical supervision, and no current medical use. For first offense for possession, it is a maximum of one year in prison or a minimum fine of $1000. Additional offenses can raise the prison time to as much as three years. United Nations Convention on Psychotropic Substances

Adopted in 1971, this document requires the signing parties to prohibit LSD. As such, it is now illegal in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and most of Europe. This convention did, however, allow medical and scientific research with LSD to be performed on humans. You can read more here for a more detailed description of the convention.
